Bifido
Bifidobacterium breve is a beneficial bacterium found in human breast milk and the human gut. B. breve is the dominant species present in breast-fed newborns and one of the most used in infants. These bacteria from human milk rapidly colonize the newborn’s gut, protect the infant against infections and contribute to the maturation of the immune system.
Bifidobacterium breve is commonly used to prevent and treat a number of conditions including diarrhea, constipation, intestinal disorders and even the common cold or flu.
Bifidobacterium breve can be found naturally in some fermented foods, including sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha and pickled cucumbers.
Foods like kefir and yogurt (unsweetened) are also high in B. breve.
Eating these foods promotes the proliferation of B. breve bacteria in the gut.
Administration of friendly strains of bacteria is associated with a reduced risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) by 42%.
